Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found many other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any physical harm in association with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the residents for details.
A senior official stated the attack rendered him without words and needed to be solved quickly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
